The SIDtoday Files is an Intercept project featuring newsletters from SIDtoday, an internal publication of the National Security Agency. The newsletters offer a window into the NSA’s culture and operations. They originated from within the Signals Intelligence Directorate, or SID, the NSA’s core spying division, and were provided to The Intercept by whistleblower Edward Snowden.
The Intercept released these files in large batches, starting with newsletters from the period after SIDtoday’s inception in March 2003 and ending with 2006. The newsletters were published by The Intercept after a process of evaluation, legal review, research, reporting, and redaction, described in this overview. They were accompanied by related Intercept news articles when appropriate.
While we focused on the parts of these documents that we found most compelling, we anticipated that readers would discover other information of interest in the files we shared. If you notice something you’d like to bring to our attention, please reach out as described below.
